Insider guide: What you need to check out in Cape Town this month

What to do, who to see and where to eat – Cape Town is never short on newness.

Even as the weather cools down, there’s still plenty to do when you visit the Mother City. Have a quick look at what the Art House Collection team has curated the best things to experience for the month of June. 

EAT 

Indo Pop-up

Home to some of South Africa’s best restaurants and the finest dining experiences around, Cape Town is simply the place to be for any avid restaurant-goer.

This month, if you’re in the mood for a decadent and delicious food experience, why not visit Delaire Graff’s Indo pop-up? Running from 15 May until 23 October, the restaurant space is headed up by chef Virgil Khan and his team. The menu is described as “a thrilling epicurean adventure, balancing authenticity and innovation with fresh, delicate food as light as it is satisfying–where everything is served to create an all-sensory dining experience.” Sound like something you’d love? The pop-up serves guests from Tuesday to Saturday, with guests set to arrive at 6pm, and being seated at 6:30pm.

Boschendal x Brundyn Art and NIROX exhibition 

Art lovers, you’re spoiled for choice! If you happen to be exploring the Cape Winelands in June, take a moment to visit Boschendal x Brundyn Art and NIROX’s exhibition Layers: Rock Art Across Space and Time. This is the second exhibition, following a successful launch event in late 2022, the art display is in collaboration with the Embassies of Spain, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, France, Italy, Mexico and Portugal. The showing runs from 20 May – 20 July 2023, bringing together the work of artists and scholars from Europe, Latin America, and Africa to foreground the impact of a particularly pivotal moment in human history and its ramifications in the present.

An Endless Night at the Mount Nelson 

If you’re closer to the city centre, the iconic pastel pink Mount Nelson hotel is a beautiful location to stay, visit or eat at.

This month, Mount Nelson in partnership with Cape Town Art Fair, presents An Endless Night, an art exhibition curated by the incredible Anelisa Mangcu. The exhibition, featuring work by Mary Sibande, Trevor Stuurman and several other artists, is open to the Mount Nelson Hotel guests and the public from Wednesday 24 May to Monday 28 August 2023.

The highly anticipated design event is back with a jam-packed line-up of industry experts and talks around local design. In 2023, Decorex Cape Town will showcase the Future of Design, through a captivating blend of physical and digital displays, collaborative workshops, and live demonstrations. Learn about upcoming decor and design trends, sustainability in design, and more at this four-day expo, running from 22 to 25 June at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
