Villa Rose

X-factor: Location! Live like a local in this inner-city gem hidden at the end of a a private lane. Villa Rose is a charming turn-of-the-century cottage with a wonderfully private garden, pizza oven, pool and outdoor shower under tropical white strelitzia palms. Evenings are special here with the garden gently lit and Devil's Peak slowly turning pink. Its Swedish/Parisian owners were so captivated by Cape Town that they decided to stay and found this gem to renovate. Originally belonging to a Cape Town gallerist, they've continued to add a collection of art, mixing Swedish works with South African contemporary artists. Restaurants are a two-minute walk away. ‍Labotessa Luxury Boutique Hotel

X-factor: We always feel like we’re in Amsterdam or Paris - or even New York - when we pop into Labotessa in the corner of one of Cape Town’s oldest squares. The heavenly scent of Diptyque candles and their home-baked apple tart is why we return time and again - yet this is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. This is quintessential Cape Town: a beautifully renovated early 1920s home on the slopes of the historic suburb of Upper Oranjezicht with a beautifully curated collection of art, including Kudzanai Chiurai’s series just returned from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The gym has the best view in the world and the pool is nestled in the most private garden. Each of the beautiful bedroom suites is different and have garden or mountain views. X-Factor: We're lucky enough to allow guests to immerse yourself in this owners lifestyle: they have three homes, each one with a similar collection. Why? Often owners have art works that are personal favourites, but what if they are ‘swallows’ and can’t enjoy them all year? Sea Lion’s owners have the answer: put one of each in each home! Their favourite? ’It’s a bronze Doggy John called ‘Blue Marine’ (painted to look like a ceramic artwork) by French artist Julien Marinetti. But they also have ‘Pink Tornado’ in Zürich and ‘Bloody Mary’ in London – each one makes them feel more “at home” when they visit.’ At Sea Lion, you'll find ‘Blue Marine’ atop the gin bar. ‍De Wet Art Villa 

X-Factor: The views and, something you don't discover until you arrive: a wind-free, protected courtyard garden, which is magical on balmy summer evenings. It is as it looks: tall and slim but its elegant, architectural design feels lofty and seamless inside. It has an elevator for easy access and for a couple wanting a spoil, the generous master suite is rather magnificent.
