A heritage cottage located in the Karoo that embraces the stillness of its surroundings, Helen House marries its traditional features (think high ceilings and wooden floors) with a soulfully stylish palette to clear your mind – a far-flung escape under the vast expanse of the Karoo sky
The Lowdown
You’ll be instantly charmed by Nieu-Bethesda’s peaceful energy and simple way of life — no more so than by the home’s cocooning interiors, which reflect the village’s landscape and textures. The country kitchen seamlessly connects the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, while the lounge and patio provide laid-back settings to completely unwind
Sleeping Arrangements
The home consists of 2 bedrooms that have been thoughtfully curated with beautiful furniture and artwork as well as top-quality bedding and utilities. The main bedroom has a king-size bed, while the other bedroom has 2 single beds, allowing the home to accommodate up to 4 guests
What To Expect
From early morning breakfasts in the spacious kitchen to stargazing in the wood-fired hot tub at night, Helen House is an oasis of relaxing areas inside and out. The property prides itself on simple, uncomplicated living — embodied by the library with a wonderful selection of books and comfortable sofas for afternoon naps
The Art House Difference
The home’s traditional, Karoo cottage layout served as the perfect canvas for existing antique pieces and thoughtfully selected local art that line the walls. The home’s art collection is always evolving, with the newest acquisition being a bronze rooster by Guy du Toit. Elsewhere, you’ll spot pieces by Diane Victor, Anthony Steward, Endale Desalegn, William Kentridge, Simon Attwood, and Sam Hlengethwa
