The small town of Riebeek Kasteel, one of South Africa’s oldest, has become a popular bolthole for Cape Town’s creative types, attracted by the wild beauty of the landscape and the town’s flourishing art scene
The Lowdown
Arriving at Cactus Flower, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d just walked into your very own riad. Make your way through the desert garden and into the main house, which greets you with a pool terrace and bar, and you’ll enter spacious, double-volume living spaces appointed in a clever mix of Moroccan and South African art and design
Sleeping Arrangements
All 5 bedroom suites are arranged around the central courtyard lounge and pool—at night, a truly magical sight, gently illuminated by glowing fanous lanterns—which offers an effortless space for gathering with loved ones. Three of the bedrooms also have private gardens
What To Expect
Cactus Flower offers an interesting mix of rest and entertainment areas, with no shortage of cosy lounge spaces—indoor, on the terrace, by the pool, or in the courtyard—where guests can while away lazy afternoons. The open-concept kitchen comes equipped with a gas-burner stovetop and 3 ovens. An inverter battery and solar panels mean that, even during load-shedding blackouts, the power never goes out
The Art House Difference
Cactus Flower is a one-of-a-kind experience: a love letter to Marrakesh in the heart of the Swartland. But beyond the traditional architecture, guests will discover an inspired collection of South African art and design
