A hidden gem perched on the slopes of Table Mountain, Karabo House is a vibrant, dramatic home (which makes sense, given its theatre director owner) with unmatched views of Cape Town’s iconic skyline. Thanks to its double-volume conservatory design, light – and scenery – fill the open-plan living spaces while all around, lush greenery ensure absolute privacy
The Lowdown
Bordering Table Mountain National Park, this former dairy farm homestead and storeroom was reimagined as a modern, light-filled home showcasing an inspired collection of mid-century design and contemporary South African art. Positioned to face the mountain, its two floors open onto an elevated verandah, which looks onto the pool, garden, and city beyond
Sleeping Arrangements
Karabo House features 3 eclectic en-suite bedrooms – two on the ground level and the master suite on the top floor – all with mountain and garden views. The master bedroom en-suite includes a steam room and spa. To ensure maximum privacy, the lower-level bedrooms are placed at opposing ends of the home
What To Expect
Designed to create a relaxed, home-away-from-home feel, the two open-plan levels include 3 lounges, dining room, and kitchen. Maximising indoor/outdoor living, the ground floor leads onto a spacious verandah with ample seating, fire pit, Jacuzzi, and heated pool while upstairs, the master bedroom leads onto a balcony with dazzling Table Mountain views
The Art House Difference
Accessed via a double-volume conservatory, the house is an absolute treasure trove of art and design, with pieces collected by its theatre director-owner over years of travel. Summer is when Karabo House really shines – its generous outdoor areas, wild garden and stunning views the perfect setting for drinks while the setting sun paints Table Mountain in strokes of coral and pink
