Nowhere else captures the wild beauty of the Cape Peninsula coastline quite like Scarborough. A longtime refuge for artists and writers, the scenic hamlet sits on the edge of a wetland nature reserve—an untamed setting that couldn’t be more fitting for this quiet escape. With its seaside-meets-farmhouse interiors, easy access to beaches, hiking and cycling trails, surfing spots, and closeness to nature, it’s near-impossible not to find yourself taken by the harmony and soul of Oxalis
The Lowdown
If Oxalis is giving you that luxury-game-lodge feeling, you’re not mistaken. Designed by Boyd Ferguson and Geordi de Sousa Costa of Cécile & Boyd (the same studio responsible for the award-winning interiors at Singita), the home channels a rustic-chic palette, with exposed timber beams, monastic stone floors and handwoven fabrics—the perfect foil for its impressive collection of classic and contemporary South African art
Sleeping Arrangements
Oxalis welcomes up to 10 guests—6 adults and 4 children—with 5 bedrooms (3 of them en suite) designed to strike a careful balance between earthy comfort and mindful minimalism. Think artisan-crafted furniture pieces and layered linens set against a backdrop of whitewashed walls and neutral tones
What To Expect
At Oxalis, indoor and outdoor are seamlessly connected, with the L-shaped structure of the house mirrored by the garden, providing a gentle flow between inside and out. The kitchen and living room (complete with fireplace for warming up crisp, winter mornings) opens up onto the generous entertainment and dining areas, pool, braai, and fire pit, all cleverly configured for easy family gatherings
The Art House Difference
Not to be outdone by its designer pedigree, Oxalis boasts a treasure trove of South African art—from old masters, like Pierneef, right through to Walter Battiss and numerous up-and-coming contemporary names. A sense of charm and calming energy fills every inch of Oxalis, undoubtedly the result of the homeowner’s carefully considered approach to every space, which feels both deeply personal and warmly inviting

Scarborough has an unofficial “dark sky” policy. In effect the residents try to keep the sky as dark as possible – this means limiting outside light to an absolute minimum. It’s part of what makes seeing the stars so special in Scarborough. We ask that you please keep outside lights off and if you feel that it is necessary to keep an outside light on – please limit this to one light only
