The Lowdown
With breathtaking ocean views to the south and the Kleinrivier mountains to the north, there’s an undeniable charm to this historic home; its Cape Dutch architecture—with 1920s gables, columns, and stained-glass windows—embodies heritage and grace. A master class in preserving the past but celebrating the contemporary, Sophie’s richly layered spaces invite guests to create lifelong memories of their own.
Sleeping Arrangements
Sophie features six en-suite bedrooms spread across two levels, including a spacious bunk room for kids. Rooms are thoughtfully arranged around the courtyard and an upstairs sitting area overlooking the ocean.
What To Expect
Inside, the floor plan takes a decidedly modern feel; the open-plan living area, with its lounge, dining, and kitchen spaces, offers stunning sea views. A tranquil library, tucked away downstairs, provides a quiet retreat with its own private porch. Sophie’s north-facing position ensures that natural light floods into every corner, warming the reading nooks and cozy sofas to create inviting spaces for relaxation.
The Art House Difference
With a gate to the ocean, follow a winding cliff path down to Shelley Beach or Langbaai which are just a few minutes’ walk from the house. Closer to home, a spot by the pool on one of the oversized couches is guaranteed one of the best ways to while away the sunny days.
The interiors—which have appeared on the pages of Condé Nast—were created by Joburg-based designers Studio19 and instantly create spaces for calm thanks to a soulful mix of natural materials, muted tones, and a gorgeous selection of contemporary South African art.
